I realize that many nations are experiencing rapid increases in their proportion of elderly people and population aging presents challenges for public health. I believe telemedicine can fundamentally change the traditional form of medical care delivery and address the uneven distribution of medical resources in China and beyond. Distributed systems for cooperative medical diagnosis might enable our grandparents to receive excellent care in their own community care center or at home.
What motivates me? My observation and reflection on social problems in China and elsewhere, the gratification of applying knowledge to real life situations, and the sense of fulfillment and accomplishment of reaching milestones in research process, my desire to make a difference in telemedicine – these are motivating factors behind my application for the Ph.D. program in Computer Science at Princeton University, focusing on Network and Distributed Services. The experience at Princeton will strengthen my expertise in distributed systems and in turn enable me to contribute to this area.
